The Monument to the Emigrant

The Monument to the Emigrant represents a deeply meaningful chapter in the social history of Antillo.

The terracotta sculpture portrays a father preparing to leave his homeland in search of work, while saying an emotional farewell to his wife and child. The scene reflects a reality that shaped the lives of many families in the village.

Like many inland Sicilian communities, Antillo experienced significant waves of emigration throughout the twentieth century, as residents left their homeland seeking better economic opportunities abroad or in other parts of Italy.

The monument was created as a tribute to these men and women who, despite leaving their hometown, maintained a strong emotional bond with their place of origin. Today it stands as a symbol of identity, resilience and memory for the entire community.
